Just outside of Kerman CA to the North heading towards Madera CA

Lights as in the shapes of orbs have been reported on floating around the grounds and in some of the still standing buildings.  There have been many stories of this particular occurrence.

There are also reports that in some of the still standing buildings, that light can be seen in some of the windows from the road.

According to my research, the school was built in 1912 and in 1967 they discontinued its services as a school  . (A person who went there said, that she thought it was shut down because it was not up to code with the, at the time “new” earthquake laws)

The beautiful main building that hosted the main school was burned down in 1998 by either a arsonist or a homeless person who took up residence in the abandoned building.

The school reportedly sold at a bank bankruptcy auction. It is now used  to store farm equipment. Some of the buildings have been torn down and the rubble from the mail two-story school-house is now gone. some of the original buildings still remain. The property is fenced off.

note: My wife and I were Kerman residents for years. My wife and her family all grown up in the area We still have friends that we keep in contact with in the area.

The two time that I have visited the property for photos have been done from the road. I was not able to get in contact with the owner to gain entry. I did not see any unusual activity from my vintage points. But for quality purposes I did take the photos in daylight hours. As far as my interaction with witnesses and research, nothing was ever reported during daylight hours. I did feel creeped out, but being old and abanded, this might of been more in my mind than something paranormal.

Subject: Old Kerman Highschool Haunting
Message Body: I attended Kerman High school from the 7th through 12th grade. The Junior High was housed in barracks on the campus and the high school used the main campus building. The bus barn was used for ag, metal and wood shops. There was a building further behind the gym used by the band. Lots of good memories. So sad that it ended up rubble. The house was resided in by the principal or vice principal. I was able to pick up a few artifacts before the fencing was put around the property. This isn’t really any help with your investigation but thought you might be interested in some history.

When I lived in Kerman (around 2006-2008) I was friends with the girl who’s family lived there (she went to high school with me). It’s not haunted at all. (I spent nearly every weekend sleeping over, including sleeping outside on a trampoline). The main auditorium was burned down by two students from another school who snuck onto the property and started a fire (this was years before I knew the girl, I don’t remember if they owned the property then or not). They used to let paintballers come in and play on Saturdays in the old cafeteria/another building, until Halloween one of the years I lived there. Some students snuck onto the property yet again and burned those buildings down. I remember her telling me at school the next time I saw her, which sucked because I enjoyed looking around/inside those buildings. Not sure if the family still lives there though, so please don’t sneak onto the property to “investigate” anything. There’s nothing but old buildings and rubble from the fires. (Not to mention it is fenced off, don’t be like the jerks who burned the cafeteria down who cut the fence open and almost let their dogs loose onto 145)
The “lights from some of the old buildings” are from the family who lives/lived there. Please respect their privacy.

Thanks for your comment. I just want to make one thing clear. I don’t ever trespass nor do I encurage anyone to go trespassing. Now that I think about it I shuld probably put up a disclaimer. When I took those pics the property was totally vacant and the windows in the house was all broken out.
The last time I drove by the school (may of 2016) the rubble was all cleaned up and farm equipment was parked there.
Just pleas don’t think I tress pass to do any investagatons. I respect private property, this was a story I heard many times frome different pepole and was following up on.

My daughter took her senior pictures there inside the buildings, nothing unusual happened. I would post them here, I just don’t know how

    Jason Marzek · June 14, 2016 at 10:45 pm

    Thanks Valerie for you comment.
I didn’t see nothing there when I wend by, but it was day light and it was all outside of the fence since I didn’t want to risk trespassing on private property. As for your doughters senior pitchers, I just put up a “contribute to investagaton” form on the bottom and there I have a section where you can upload your photos.
You can always e-mail them to me at

Finally you can upload them to our face book fan page (you can also like the page to keep up to date with our open investigations) at
Thanks again, I’m always happy to see someone willing to contribute to a investagaton.

I remember going to the school for Sunday classes never Felt uncomfortable going didn’t see nothing strange I even got to see the gym it was very exciting to see all those Awards during the time back in the days I feel they should have never took that’s cool down

    Jason Marzek · June 15, 2016 at 10:48 am

Thanks for your input Lisa. From the old pictures I seen the school look so beautiful I wish I could have seen it in person. As far as the stories go about it being haunted I’m starting to think that it’s a local Legend and nothing more. Maybe somebody else out there knows or witness something interesting.
Thanks again for taking your time out to share your story.

Not a ghost story, but part of the old HS building history…Back in the 70’s, there were a group of young adults (some termed them Jesus Freaks)lived in the main building. Kind of commune style, working whatever jobs they could get and pulling their money to rent it and to buy food. I have never heard any ghost stories about it, but weirdly I have had dreams (more than once) that something evil lived inside the old main building. lol, but that’s just dreams.

    Jason Marzek · June 15, 2016 at 2:40 pm

Thanks for sharing that history of the old highschool, Kathy. I didn’t know about the commune in the main building. Always love lerning somthing new.
About your dream; I wonder if there is somthing subconscious there that you picked up on and it was coming out in yoir dream. Any way that was just a thought.
    Thanks again for sharing.
